If I am trading news event I never trade the first spike. I trade after the spike and first ret. Spreads can be penalising on first spike, difficult execution etc.

Reminder Chloe for tomorrow. If reaction is deep the final direction is most always the same as direction of first spike. The retracement after the first spike if profit taking by news traders which should not ret 100%. Then after the profit taking you get reveral back again which can often be sustained depending upon the power of the news event

Trichet is unlike Bernanke a professional inflation hawk because the only mandate of ECB is price stability. He needs not care about economy. However the ECB is under political pressure to support economy. But his tenure ends soon. I think ECB will hike 25bp and for outlook use Greenspan FED speak. If he gave hawkish outlook , the EUR reaction may be up to 1.45 in a peak and then back to 1.43 , but Ezone stocks would crash.
