For Thanksgiving many of us are off Thursday and Friday although the markets are open on Friday, as is the retail sector. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

yep but watching market volume many holidays in US are extended by mkt players. Thanksgiving a good example.

There are only 10 Federal holidays in the US. For 2 of the 10, most businesses do not close (i.e. Inauguration Day and Columbus Day).

Don't understand the rationale for US markets being shut today. Why celebrate MLK day and not Malcolm X day...or what about Rosa Parks day??
