I agree--let's not plug the deflationary angle too hard. I don't know how many times "respected" economists have come unstuck on that one. The fed will not allow it "over their dead bodies". Genetically reprogrammed to fight deflation at any cost

Yes you are right the nzdusd and audusd daily chart patterns are near identical to gold this week, just not so dramatic. I shall be surprised if early March lows are not soon tested and ultimately broken.

As a general comment on gold my feeling is it will have its day again. I am not nearly as bearish gold as Ashraf would appear to be. Maybe he knows something we don't to account for his rather sudden hate. There are plenty of conspiracy theories out there.

Price action in AUD and NZD has this eerie look of similarity to that of gold from earlier in the week. If the so called "deflation" trade is what justified the gold drop (which i dont fully agree with btw), then with AUD and NZD being among the most overvalued on PPP terms, I wouldnt be surprised by a 10% shakeout correction as well. I mean a ~2% yield differential doesnt justify holding on until after a blowout like with GLD. Any thoughts DaveO or others?

We can't label Draghi a moron. He rations his words and chooses them very carefully. He covers his back with the politicians and handles the press like he is the boss. I can respect Draghi.

BBC Newsnight had Monti on last night talking about da Thatcher dreadie. He had attended the funeral ceremony. When asked at the end of the interview whether he thought UK would ever fully embrace the EU, there was a silence, stuck for words temporarily. Then a big smile "it doesn't look imminent". Seems a sensible chap to me.

Who else is there cat worthy of comment, we miss the DSK/Merkel affair.

I think after much thought and deliberation I must award the current moron prize to Monsieur Hollande. We will have to exclude the band of Brussels idiots or we will be here all night.

I feel dissapointed with Christine Lagarde whom I thought was good choice for IMF. But she seems to be always lagging behind the curve, a laggard one might say.

Cat, I will take your word for it that Weidmann is a moron. Most of them seem to be morons judging by the way they constantly repeat themselves. Personally I only like to hear something said once :-)
